How to download data stored on Facebook about you
Facebook collects a lot of data about us. But with this guide, you cannot only download all the data it stores about you and your activity but also gain a deeper understanding of it.
To download a copy of your Facebook data, first, open the app and tap the menu button:
This will take you to this screen:
Scroll down until you see Settings & Privacy. Tap on it:
The menu will open. Tap on Settings:
You will enter the settings section of the app, which looks like this:
Here, find the Your Facebook Information section and tap on Download Your Information:
This will take you to a screen to download your information. Here, Facebook allows you to choose whether you want to download all your data or choose what you want to download. To do this, you’ll need to check or uncheck the box you’ll see next to each section:
At the very end, you’ll also be able to choose the date range that your report will cover, either from when you logged into the social network or the period you specified. You can also choose whether you want to download the information as an HTML or JSON document and the quality of your media files. When you have reviewed everything, click Create File:
This will take you to this screen:
This tells you that your request has been generated and that your document will contain one or more files depending on the size of your request for information. Also, depending on your request size, Facebook will take more or less time to compile all your data. This process can take from a few minutes to several hours. Once completed, the app will send you a notification, and then you can proceed to download it by clicking Download:
At this point, a secure browser window will open, and you will be asked to enter your password to download it. This ensures that your data remains safe and only accessible to you.
When you do, the information will be saved on your device. We warn you that the amount of information a social network has about you may surprise you a lot, but if you want to know what they know and what they don’t, use this method.
