What is AX88179?

ASIX AX88179 is a USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet controller used in many USB network adapters, USB-C hubs and docking stations. It appears in Device Manager as USB\VID_0B95&PID_1790; the older AX88178A uses PID_178A. The newer AX88179A and AX88179B chips usually report the same product ID but need recent drivers.

Install the driver

  1. Download the latest driver from this page and install it.
  2. Reconnect the adapter. It appears under Network adapters as ASIX AX88179 USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (or AX88179A/B).
  3. If the adapter came with a hub or dock, check its maker’s site too — some brands ship customized drivers.

Troubleshooting

  • Very slow speed — make sure the adapter is connected to a USB 3.x port (blue or marked SS), not a USB 2.0 port.
  • Disconnects after sleep — clear “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” in the adapter properties.
  • Code 10 after a Windows update — uninstall the device together with its driver and install the latest version from this page.

Linux supports these adapters with the ax88179_178a kernel module.
